U14 Select
Our coaches for the U14 Select team are Head Defensive Coach Matt Rexford and Head Offensive Coach Bobby Calhoun. The experience and fire these coaches bring are contagious for players, especially young ones who need coaches to continue building on their love of lacrosse. They engage the players, give important feedback, and inspire them to be better every day.
Head Defensive Coach Matt Rexford
Matt is a Florida native who attended Jensen Beach High School and was part of their inaugural program. Picking up a stick for the first time in 7th grade at 12 years old, Coach Rex was a 1st Team All-District midfielder and captain throughout his high school career. He decided to continue playing on a collegiate level at Division II Saint Leo University, where he specialized in defensive midfield and man-down unit.
During summers he would help run clinics and travel programs across the state. Unfortunately, he suffered many injuries including 3 knee surgeries which he battled throughout his entire college career. After Coach Rex graduated, he decided to coach at Saint Leo while attending grad school. He then went on to help build Wesley Chapel's High School program as the head coach. When asked why he coached, he said, "coaching is a passion of mine and I enjoy helping kids develop lacrosse skills as well as life skills. The game has brought me so many great memories, friendships, and opportunities and I want to continue to give back to the lacrosse community and game. I'm excited to coach for Palms LC club because they have the best reputation and some of the best support and knowledge in the business."
Head Offensive Coach Bobby Calhoun
Dr. Bobby Calhoun played at NYIT from 2010-2012 and then transferred to The University of Tampa and played from 2013-2015. He captained the Spartans his senior season and was a member of the team that reached the NCAA playoffs both years.
After his college playing career, he played for the Florida Launch in the summer of 2018. Doctor Calhoun coached travel lacrosse throughout the summers and continues to do so with the Florida Palms as a U14 co-head coach with Matt Rexford. He has been coaching for 11 years between the Palm Beach area and Tampa.
While in Graduate school, Doctor Calhoun was the Offensive Coordinator for Keiser University at the start of their program, and he was a member of the coaching staff and team that went to the National Championship for the NAIA. He coached collegiately for 3 years before moving back to Tampa.
