2024 Outlook & Registration Options

Learn about what the 2024 seasons will look like.

  • National Select:
This track is for our players who are college recruitment-ready or recruitment-bound. This track is offered to our most competitive players who are dedicated to getting in front of college coaches and playing with the best this region has to offer. This track has the most practice: 2-3 times a week for about 3 months per season; plus off-season training and development, which makes it a yearly commitment. This track has 4 showcases/ tournaments a season, most of which are out of state.

    Select:
The Select track is similar to the National Select track, still offering a great level of competition and a high pace of play in practices, however, it is geared towards a) getting your player to the level of National Select, or b) a player who is competitive and wants great instruction, to prepare for the spring High School season. The seasons are slightly shorter, however, still offers 2-3 practices a week. This track typically participates in 3 tournaments a season and has ale cart options for further off-season training and longer seasons.

    Regional:
This track is geared towards the player who is committed to developing in the sport, but might not have the playing experience or goals to commit to a Select or National Select track. Regional players are developing their skills and might be in their first year of club lacrosse / competitive play. When we are evaluating players, it is important that all players display the effort to get better, so Regional Teammates are committed to working hard to one day be asked to be on a Select or National Select team. Regional Seasons place an emphasis on practicing (typically 2x a week) and typically include 2 in-state tournaments.

  • Players will have an opportunity to purchase a traditional season package that includes 25+ practices and 2-4 tournaments. A seasonal package is an ideal package for players who play multiple sports and can only commit to one travel lacrosse season.

  • Players will have an opportunity to purchase a full-year membership package that includes Spring (Lower and Middle School players only), Summer, and Fall seasons. This totals 60+ practices and 4-8 tournaments. An annual membership is an ideal package for players who are fully committed to lacrosse year-round and want to take advantage of all opportunities.

  • In the Spring, we offer Sunday morning clinic-style practices for our rec players. Our Spring season is a supplement to the rec season and is meant to serve as continued development with the team and coaches.

Our Spring clinics focus on strengthening fundamentals, refining technique, and offering high-intensity, high-rep practices.

The Best Lacrosse Tryout Structure: Finding the Perfect Balance

Lacrosse tryouts are not only an opportunity for players to showcase their skills, but they also serve as a platform for coaches to evaluate individual talent and build a cohesive team. Crafting the best lacrosse tryout structure requires striking a delicate balance between various factors to ensure fair assessments and optimal player selection. Here, at Palms Lacrosse Club, we have honed a tryout structure that has proven successful over the years. Let's dive into the components that make it the best.

1. Pre-Tryout Conditioning: We encourage prospective players to diligently prepare themselves physically and mentally for the tryouts. Providing access to training resources helps individuals arrive at the tryouts in peak condition. This allows coaches to witness players' true potential and reduce the risk of injuries during the evaluation process. Stay tuned for our small group training offerings on Wednesdays leading up to tryouts.
2. A Transparent Evaluation Process: Transparency is key to creating a fair and supportive environment. We structure the tryouts in a way that clearly communicates the evaluation criteria to all participants. This ensures that every player understands what is expected of them and how they will be assessed. Moreover, it encourages players to showcase their unique skills and play to their strengths.
3. Skills Stations: By establishing a series of skills stations, we provide opportunities for players to demonstrate their proficiency in a variety of lacrosse fundamentals. These stations typically cover stick skills, shooting accuracy, defensive techniques, and game awareness. Rotating players through stations allows each participant to showcase their skills multiple times, providing coaches with a comprehensive evaluation.
4. Game Simulations: To assess players' ability to perform in actual game scenarios, we incorporate controlled scrimmage matches into the tryout structure. It offers players the chance to demonstrate their decision-making skills, teamwork, and positioning on the field. Game simulations also allow coaches to evaluate players' adaptability, composure under pressure, and overall lacrosse IQ.
5. Coach and Peer Assessments: Including input from multiple evaluators ensures a broader perspective on players' abilities. Our tryout structure incorporates assessments from both coaches and selected peers. This comprehensive evaluation method provides a well-rounded perspective on each player's performance, enabling coaches to make informed decisions.
6. Communication and Feedback: After the tryouts, we provide constructive feedback to players upon request, irrespective of whether they make the team or not. This practice aims to foster growth and development among our tryouts.
